A computer-led cost-cutting plan calls for closing Mogul's Burling bulk plant, setting Peter Thornton and Alec Stewart against each other over how to handle the unions. Stewart is prepared to use leaks and provocation to weaken union official Clancy. At home his preoccupation strains his marriage to Roz, whose dress boutique is in financial trouble, just as Brian Stead weighs whether Stewart is ready for the board.
