This City Never Sleeps

Season 1 Episode 12: Lai Ming Kneels for Her Children

With Koon Chi Sum dead from his injuries, Koon Hiu Kwan becomes the de facto head of Shanglifer by holding his mother Ting Lai Ming's shares. Seemingly defeated, Koon Hiu Yin quietly plots behind the scenes: he uses his sister Koon Sze Nga's secret affair as leverage to force her to betray Hiu Kwan, and brings Lai Ming home from the asylum. To protect her son, Lai Ming kneels before Hiu Yin, confessing tearfully that she personally poisoned Hiu Yin's mother years ago, and begs him to spare her family. Hiu Yin watches in silence, testing the truth in her eyes, until Hiu Kwan agrees to back down—only then does he help Lai Ming to her feet with a cold smile.
